Conformation Photo Carol Coffey Conformation is concerned with proper breeding to the standard and most particularly for good temperament. Our Pembroke Welsh Corgis are very well represented in the conformation ring and on various conformation shows on TV. There are several reputable, well-known breeders in the Club who are conscientious about breeding.

My love for animals began as a child and even at an early age I had a passion for my canine companions. I think it was inevitable that I would gravitate toward a career that included animals. Living on a working Farm with cattle, horses and dogs. Our animals are a large part of our lives. I started showing dogs in 1987 when I purchased my first show dog, an AKC registered Rottweiler. With the help of the breeder I finished my first AKC Champion and then went on to finish 3 other Rottweilers. I bred a few litters and quickly found that it even though the temperament on my dogs was sweet and outgoing it was hard to find caring and loving homes for this breed and decided to look for another breed. My first Pembroke Welsh Corgi came to live at Triple H and we quickly feel in love with this breed. Their temperament, intelligence and devotion to their family stamped a place in my heart forever. After breeding and showing Rottweiler I thought that Corgis would be an easy transformation. These little dogs are born show dogs. They are very food motivated and are always trying to please, two very important traits to make a good show dog. I have been showing and breeding Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis for over 17 years. Having bred, shown and finished over 40 AKC Champions to date including the Number One Pembroke Welsh Corgi for 2006 and 2007, Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club 2006 and Best of Breed at the AKC Eukanuba Invitational in 2006 and 2007. I have also produced several Pembroke Welsh Corgi Specialty winners in breed and performance.
Regular class judge Nancy Shaffer Smith (Pinafore Kennel)
Nancy has been active as an owner/breeder/handler since acquiring her first OES in 1967. She has finished over 30 OES champions, many winning at Specialties under breeder judges. In addition, eight of Nancy’s OES have earned a Register of Merit. She has trained and shown 3 OES in obedience gaining 3 CD’s and a CDX. One of Nancy’s dogs was the sire of 17 champions, and is the grandsire of a dog that has sired over 30 champions. Two of her dogs attained Top Five OES status. She traveled with a breeder of Belgian Tervuren, co-owned some of them, and helped finish 12 champions. Nancy and her daughter bought a Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1984. This led to a lifelong love of these big dogs in a small package, and she has since finished 11 homebreds with very limited breeding. Recently she was accepted as a Breeder of Merit listed with AKC. Nancy has had her AKC judging privilege since 1988 and is currently licensed for all breeds in the Herding Group, Miscellaneous, Best In Show, eight Sporting Breeds, and Junior Showmanship. She has had the honor of judging many Regional OES Specialties in the United States, Canada, Finland, Australia, and Germany. She has also judged many Specialties for other breeds in the Herding Group. She was invited to judge the Welsh Corgi Club of Queensland, Australia, Annual Championship Show in 2000 and a Briard Regional Specialty in May of 2005. She had the honor of judging the OESCA National Specialty in October of 2000, and was selected by the membership as one of three judges for the Centennial Celebration of OESCA in September of 2005. Most recently Nancy judged the OES League of Victoria National Specialty held in Melbourne, AU.
Thank you for asking me to judge your Specialty. It is always an honor to be asked for your opinion as a judge but especially when it is one of your own breeds. Nancy Shaffer Smith
